Taiwanese manufacturer HTC, has chosen to shut down their offices in South Korea, after tough competition from local manufacturers like Samsung and LG.
HTC struggled with low handset sales in the country, and as such has decided to close their office in order to “streamline operations” and improve efficiency. “This is a hard decision that has direct impact on people who have contributed to the growth HTC has experienced the past several years,” said the company in an official statement. Korean vendors like Samsung, LG and Pantech had secured 90 percent of the local market, whereas HTC had a 2 percent share last year, which dropped to just 1 percent in 2012′s first quarter.
This comes after the company closed their offices in Brazil too, after their marketshare there dropped to under 1 percent. Shame really, because the company’s new One Series of devices are quite fantastic compared to most other Android devices out there. Hopefully they’ll do better in other markets to overcome this loss.
