Samsung today expanded its portfolio of dual-SIM smartphones by launching the Galaxy S Duos and Galaxy Y Duos Lite. The high-end S Duos features a four-inch screen and runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, while the entry-level Y Duos Lite has a 2.8-inch screen and runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
“At Samsung, we are seeking to fuel the growth of the dual-SIM market in India by launching our innovative, dual-SIM Smartphones. With the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S Duos and Galaxy Y Duos Lite, we are seeking to democratise the smartphone market in India. We are looking at smartphones contributing more than 25 percent to our total mobile volumes this year.” stated Asim Warsi, VP, Samsung Mobile.
Powered by a 1GHz Cortex A5 CPU, the Galaxy S Duos has a large four-inch 480 x8 00 (WVGA) TFT display. It comes with a 1500 mAh battery and a 5 megapixel autofocus rear camera with LED flash in addition to a VGA front-facing camera. It has Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, 4 GB of storage (expandable to 32GB via microSD cards) and 768MB of RAM. Graphics on the S Duos is powered by an Adreno 200 GPU.

With a 2.8-inch screen and powered by an 832Mhz processor, the Samsung Galaxy Y Duos Lite doesn’t pack the meat for providing a rich media experience. That's because the Y Duos Lite is aimed at consumers looking to shift from feature phones to smartphones. It runs on Gingerbread and has all the standard features found on entry-level smartphones such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi b/g/n, GPS, a two megapixel camera and 4GB of internal memory (expandable to 32GB via microSD cards). It also features Samsung’s very own TouchWiz UI skinned over Gingerbread.
In partnership with Reliance, Samsung is offering a ‘Smart Deal’ of 1 GB 3G data or Unlimited 2G data free per month for six months for all Samsung Galaxy Y Duos Lite buyers.

The Galaxy S Duos comes pre-loaded with a host of applications. An app that may be of interest to students is the My Education app available in the the Samsung Mobile Application Store. My Education lets school students take advantage of more than 10000 free videos curated by teachers and, according to a press communiqué, is the largest collection of educational videos mapped to the Indian curriculum. These videos are relevant for all students from Class I to XII. The app also offers more than 800 text books. Students can also access assessment papers and can take assessments on real time basis.
The Samsung Galaxy S Duos is available for Rs 17,900 and the GALAXY Y Duos Lite is priced at Rs 6,990.
