iPhone 5 in leaked images slimmer than iPhone 4S

The next Apple iPhone is set to be unveiled on September 12. The latest leak about this upcoming handset comes via iResQ, which compares the next iPhone with the current flagship handset, the iPhone 4S. From the images captured by iResQ, we can see that the next iPhone will be considerably thinner than the iPhone 4/ 4S.

As per the report by iResQ, “The most interesting thing we see here is the fact that the iPhone 4 and 4S are thicker than the iPhone 5 by the thickness of the back glass. So here is an easy way to imagine the thickness of the iPhone 5: remove the glass backplate from your iPhone 4/ 4S and there you go! That's the approximate thickness of the iPhone 5.”

iResQ adds that the next iPhone fits into the pocket well, and that getting used to the longer screen is not an issue. This initial analysis regarding the design of the handset should put to rest any fears in the minds of future iPhone buyers.

The iPhone 4/ 4S is bulky compared with the currently available range of slim smartphones. It would be best if the next iPhone sheds some of the bulk in order to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S III, which features both a larger screen and a slimmer form factor.

One of the biggest changes expected on the next flagship handset is that it will come equipped with a display measuring 4 inches diagonally. If Apple does add a 4-inch display to the next iPhone, it will be the first iPhone with a display size larger than 3.5 inches. The resolution of the next iPhone is believed to be 1136 x 640 pixels. The change in design is a likely indicator, which may propel Apple to reach high sales figures.

With the possible change in design, we can also see that Apple will redo the design of the dock connector at the bottom and it will be a lot smaller in comparison. This change will apparently be implemented to fit the handset with LTE capabilities.

Further, it is believed that Apple will incorporate a new technology in the display of the next iPhone, called in-cell, which will make the handset a lot slimmer. The technology will help in avoiding the use of another touchscreen layer, as the touch sensors are integrated into the LCD itself. By using this technology for the display, Apple would also simplify the supply chain as well as be able to cut costs. This can be achieved as the brand would not need to buy touch panels and LCD panels from various suppliers.
